Sprunki Biology

The biology of the Sprunkis in sprunt is variable. Most Sprunkis have differing physical and behavioral traits from each other, taken from variable sources, usually fauna, flora, or objects, and sometimes mythical beasts and concepts, but there are several universal traits all of them share.

Color

A trait all Sprunkis share, regardless of subspecies, is their body being monochrome. A Sprunki's body will always be shades of the same color as themself. Sprunkis often like to dress themself in clothing differing from their base color, as a result, to pop out more, though some choose to dress themselves in colors matching their body.

A Sprunki's colors are determined by their parents' colors, usually, as they are a mixture of their parent's colors, though sometimes they will be the exact same as one of their parents.

Abnormalities

Sometimes, a Sprunki will be born with a color that doesn't match either of its parents, or without a color entirely, where-in it will be completely black or white. Sprunkis can also be born as a pure color, with only its eyes, and rarely mouths, appearing different from their color.

As well, sometimes a Sprunki will be born with a pattern instead of a single color, which is very rare. Sprunkis of this sort often have strange sounds, or lack them entirely, though not always.

Noise

All Sprunkis, save for infertile ones, have a sound, category, and instrument/associated group of noise. For example, Oren's associated sound is a drum, which classifies her as a beat, and as a percussion instrument.

Sprunkis begin using their sound around toddlerhood, when they are beginning to interact with other Sprunkis of their own age. A noise is used to show various emotions, with the sound varying based on how the Sprunki is feeling, being used to communicate its emotional state. It is often used without any meaning at first, but develops meaning and changes in tone and pitch as the Sprunki ages. A happy Sprunki might have a higher-pitched sound than the same Sprunki with a lower pitch.

A Sprunki's noise is also tied to their ability to reproduce via harmonization, and as a result, Sprunkis without a natural noise cannot reproduce.

Abnormalities

Sometimes, Sprunkis are born without a sound. This often is not noticed until later in life, when the Sprunki is with their young peers, beginning to practice their sound. A Sprunki that lacks a sound is often quite distressed, and may react in varying ways. A Sprunki without a sound cannot harmonize with its partner(s) when it reaches maturity, and must be told this by whoever is the young Sprunki's guardian, once it reaches puberty. As a result, they often choose prosthetic sounds, categories, and instruments based on what they enjoy hearing from others, or what they think they might've had.

Some Sprunkis are born deaf. They can still produce a sound, but they cannot hear other Sprunki's sounds. It is unknown whether a born deaf Sprunki can reproduce or not, though ones that are hard-of-hearing and those that became deaf still can.

Reproduction

Sprunki Reproduction is tied to their sounds. If two or more Sprunkis harmonize in a song unique to them and their partners', and if all of the participants want a child, an egg will appear. Sprunki Reproduction is not tied to gender, and is capable with any orientation or gender of Sprunkis, with some Sprunkis having as many as four parents.

Sprunkis who cannot naturally produce a sound are infertile, and incapable of reproducing with other Sprunkis, even if their partner is capable of doing so. Examples of this in sprunt are Clukr, Vineria, Garnold, and Mard.

A Sprunki's egg hatches within 3 months of being created, though it can be sped up by its parents vocalizing with their sound to the egg. A baby Sprunki usually takes physical and behavioral traits from both/all parents, though sometimes it primarily favors one of them. A baby Sprunki usually is a blending of its parents' colors, with incomplete dominance expressed. Sometimes again, one parent will be favored over the other. Sometimes, a Sprunki will be born with traits that match none of its parents', though this is not very common, with the baby often expressing one of the aforementioned color or noise abnormalities in addition.

Sprunkis can also reproduce by themself, but it is not well documented, and the method of which they cause the egg to appear is unknown. It is also unknown if the offspring will be a complete clone of its parent, or something entirely different.

Sexual Dimorphism

Most Sprunkis' have a chosen gender, and a biological birth sex. A Sprunki's biological birth sex can heavily vary, usually based on the subspecies their biology takes from, and works in tandem with their category, with known ones, not counting intersex variations, being male, female, cosexual, and null. A Sprunki's category also influences their biological sex in regards to reproduction, with known variations being Beat, Effect, Melody, and Voice. The number of combinations, not counting intersex variations, is about 16 biological birth sexes, though the category of the Sprunki is often not determinable until later in life, and sometimes is not all fitting to the Sprunki's noise.

Sprunkis born with a female birth sex often will have naturally darker eyelids than a male, cosexual, or null Sprunki. Transgender Sprunkis that present as female or feminine presenting will often use eyeshadow that is a darker color than their natural eyelids to match their proper sex.

Intersex Sprunkis, and sometimes gender-nonconforming Sprunkis, though by choice instead of birth, will often have black eyelids. The reason for this is unknown. Gray is an example of unnatural black eyelids, while Clukr and Jevin are examples of naturally black eyelids due to some form of intersex disorder.

An example of a Sprunki with a odd category is Tunner, whose noise is produced using the vocal tract, which should deem him a Voice, but he is a Melody despite this.
